Checklist to Use When You Buy Used CNC Machines

Computer Numerical Control Machines have modernized the manufacturing sector to an extent that the machines have become indispensable. The ease with which complicated designs and components are manufactured with the help of these units have helped manufacturers and designers innovate. The decision to buy used CNC machines, or used sheetmetal machines or used metalworking machines is one of the most prudent options in a manufacturing unit. It cuts down the costs in the attempt of the unit to achieve modernization. It is however important to check out the functions/features while procuring used machines. Here is a checklist that will help.

#1 Linear Motion Guideways/Box Guide Ways
Regardless of the type of guideways that you choose when you buy used CNC machines, it needs to support operations across four dimensions – speed, load capacity, tool life and rigidity. A buyer could consider the material intends to be cut, and the feed rates when deciding on the type of guideways. As a thumb rule, LM guideways are faster, while box guideways are more rigid.

#2 The control system
The control system is the heart of the CNC machine. It is therefore necessary to check if the controls offer the right kind of reliability, if the controls are effective enough, if the controls are easy to use from an operator perspective, and the nature of the software in the machine.

#3 Accuracy of machine
The positional accuracy of a machine is important. Therefore, when you buy used CNC machines check if the machine moves to the positional co-ordinates that you intended it to move. It would be a good idea to take multiple readings to understand the positional accuracy of a machine. There are threshold limits which are not to be crossed and this will determine if the machine will offer the best results.

#4 Repetitive movements
A machine will typically have to move to positional co-ordinates multiple times and for the purpose of accuracy, it is essential that the accuracy of the positional co-ordinates are maintained every time. In other words, there should not be any difference between any two repeat movements. This requires multiple readings for different runs.
